Hello There Sunshine still life painting by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan

Hello There Sunshine still life painting by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan
Really!  This was fun to paint. I love painting clear glass. It is a new experience every time. I just never know how it will turn out but I love playing with the darks and lights of it. The color and the values and oh yes that little spot of pure white.

Still Life painting I See Clear Through You by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan

Still Life painting I See Clear Through You by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan
24x18x1.5 oil on gallery wrapped canvas. I painted this because I do enjoy painting clear glass. I like the loose strokes of the roses in contrast of the crisp glass.

Faraway Gazing sunflower demo still life by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan

Faraway Gazing sunflower demo still life by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan
I decided to share my painting process with you today. Instead of painting in my studio I just set this still life up in my living room and painted as I watched TV. This is the final picture and I posted it twice just so it would post right.
 1. I start by blocking in placement with darks and light.

I moved the cup and decided to leave the frog out...
After I got the basic focus blocked in I decide to Paint in the dark background. This will change a lot as the painting progresses.
My palette starting at bottom and going left Cad yellow light, Cad red light, Permanent Rose, Alizarin Crimson, Burnt Umber, Burnt Sienna, Ultramarine Blue, Prussian Blue, Pthalo Blue, Indigo Blue, Sap Green and Titanium white in the center. I know it looks a mess.

I add in the light foreground

Adding more detail to the glass and the cup also adding lighter blue on the cup. Also blurring the distant sunflower petals.
I added the petals on the table just for more yellow to tie everything in.
I now blur the edges of the pitcher to shift focus.
Now I add in the yellow flowers on the vase and complete the table cloth by dragging light whitish blue paint across and down with a palette knife leaving rough texture. I hope you enjoyed this little demo of how I approach and oil painting. This is a 10x8 oil on canvas panel.

And Fruit by Angela Sullivan

And Fruit by Angela Sullivan
Always I seem to have a problem with naming my paintings. I stand before them when they are done
and I am sure I must have the most puzzled look. What should I call it? With each one special and deserving of a good name sometimes I am sure I fall short. But when you have named almost 2,000 paintings they all seem to run together. Anyway that is my dilemma.
I have been painting larger lately. This one is a 20x16 oil on gallery wrapped canvas.
It has loads of thick rich paint. To purchase contact me

Little Green Bottle by Angela Sullivan

Little Green Bottle by Angela Sullivan
My sister gave me this little green bottle a while back. I was searching for something to paint and came across this. I intentionally wanted to add a touch of red and ended up with more than a touch.

Yellow Fellows

Yellow Fellows
These flowers just caught my eye so to speak. I just had to paint them.
Also there is just something about jars that captivate me. I look loser and do what I do...
These are named Yellow Fellows just because I could not think of anything else after two full
days with my grandchildren I am a little frazzled.

Jar Head

Jar Head
Do you remember those wonderful little glass baby food jars?
I am older and have little reason to peruse the baby food isle but the last
time I did go there what I saw was a lot of plastic square boxed. Now just
what can you make out of that. Certainly they do not compare to the glass jars.

Some Behind

Some Behind
When I painted this I put in the distant flowers first. Usually I paint in a different
sequence but not today. Today I am a rebel.

Cherry Chirp

Cherry Chirp
I do know that birds are suppose to eat those little red berries which hang on trees.
From my standpoint these look like a little too much for me. I think I will pass.

Pickled Okra

Pickled Okra
Okra is one of those things which you either love or hate. I myself love it. Yesterday
my co worker brought some pickled okra to work. Her grandmother made it. I thought it looked
so pretty in the jar that while she was working I was in the kitchen snapping photos with my iphone.

Atypical Strawberry Shortcake

Atypical Strawberry Shortcake
I am a rebel...I refuse to be put into one of those fancy little dishes.
I have always loved those little glass jars and that is what I will have.
