Winter Won't Last Forever winter painting by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan

Winter Won't Last Forever winter landscape painting by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan
I was thinking about warmer weather and sunshine. I wanted to go out and paint today in the great outdoors but it is cool and windy. I am afraid the I don't even want to admit it to myself but I went out painting the other day and I must have arthritis because it was kinda cool and my fingers sure did ache for some while afterward. I enjoyed pushing the blue shadows and decided as an after thought to add the warm yellow flowers gently popping their heads up out of the frozen snow. Maybe tomorrow will be warm. Snow scape painted on 5x7 canvas panel.

Midnight Desert camel painting by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan

Midnight Desert camel painting by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan
Why paint a Camel? Well! because it has eyes and eye lashes of course.
Why wouldn't I? You might also want to know that yes I do realize that their eyes are not blue but for today at this moment in time this one does. When you first looked at this did your mind tell you it was a camel. If so then my goal was accomplished and who cares if his eyes are blue right?

A Snails Pace by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan

A Snails Pace by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan
I painted this little snail mostly because of the antenna or feelers or whatever they are called and the shadow. Why else would anyone paint a snail unless they are weird. OK, OK maybe it is the last thing I mentioned. 4x4 oil painting on canvas panel. Nature, animals

Stand Off sheep painting by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan

Stand Off sheep painting by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan
I was keeping my grand daughter today and she suggested that I go paint... What a novel idea. Of course I said yes. This is the result. I had fun with it if you can not already tell. I had trouble once again with camera glare. I have tried so many approaches to it but still I am bothered by spots of glare. This is really a cute painting. 5x7 oil on canvas panel, animal

Banana Split banana painting by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan

Banana Split banana painting by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan
I will tell you that to the ordinary eye this may just look like any old banana but to the trained eye you will notice a lot of mid tones and if you squint a lot you will notice a small area of light that would be on the fruit itself and then there is a small amount of dark dark's. Yep it was all intentional. I don't know if I achieved what I intended but I am definitely closer than I was. I read somewhere that to add interest you need varied amounts of dark, lights and mid tones. Those tips of black were on purpose not accident. I am actually giving a lot more thought to the painting process and therefore my paintings must get better...right?  5x7 still life oil on canvas panel.

On A Sunday church painting by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan

On A Sunday church painting by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan
This is a church painting facing out of the picture however with the size of the building and the small 7x5 canvas panel it was hard to prevent this but I think with the fence and the road I was able to lead the eye back in. I am really enjoying my time at the easel. I set my alarm to get up at 5 am so I can have quiet time to paint uninterrupted by life. I do find it hard to stay awake late at night which I wish I could do also. Oh well! for today my strategy is working for me. Hope your day is good.

Ghost Cow, cow painting by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan

Ghost Cow by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan
I know that this is a little different than what I usually paint. I am pushing values. I made a value scale yesterday and need more practice so I thought what a better way to play with values with a light cow and a light background. 5x7 cow painting with oil on a canvas panel.

Party Ready olive still life painting by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan

Party Ready olive painting by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan
My shadows are a little dark but I chose to leave them that way. That is the great thing about painting is that I can decide what to add and what to leave out. Sometimes I make good decisions sometimes not but no matter.....Today is a good day.

Feed The Cows landscape by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan
I am off work for a few days. Hooray! especially after I spent a few days at the Hospital due to being scheduled to work during the winter storms. I ended up having to sleep there. Hope not to do that again any time soon. I would rather be painting.
